ISRAEL
   If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

In Genesis 15, God gives to Abraham a land from the great river in Egypt, to the river Euphrates.  The land is the land of Israel, although, it is not yet named Israel when it is given to Abraham.  Abraham has not seen this land, yet, he know it exists because God said it existed.  (Area Map)  Why is this important?  Because the fullness of this land has yet to be fully recognized as the land of Israel. Today Israel dwarfs the dimensions that God had planned.  Consider buying land and receiving less than half.  The promise of abundant land is coming.  All believe that it will exist in its fullness when Messiah is on the throne.

This country (about the size of New Jersey) is special because God  has chosen Israel as His timepiece.  While Abraham was promised land (Genesis 15:18), the people who travelled to Israel (see Joshua 3:13-17)  settled the land but did not prosper.  Sin got in the way of God and they were rejected from the land by the Babylonians (Jeremiah 20:4-6).  Having returned (Ezra 1) they were later overcome by the Romans (Acts 28:17).  In 70 AD, the Jews were once again purged from the land (Matthew 24:2).  Yet today, this country is brought together just as the Bible stated ( Ezekiel 11:17 ).  This has validated a set of events that we recognize as "end times".  But, more than that, God's people - called by His name - continue to return to Israel. 

Why return?  Perhaps to once again be the witnesses to His greatness when He comes to save them, just as He did for Moses, or Hezekiah, or Joshua, or Sampson?  Yes, I truly believe so.  But, there is also judgment that is coming.  Judgment can be averted by believing that Jesus is the Messiah, believing that He died for your sins, and rose after death on a cross to salvation.  Belief that Jesus will save you comes with a cost.  A life for a life.  You give your life to Jesus, so that Jesus can rule and reign in your life.  It's really an excellent exchange. 

Israel when it was desolate of Jews, was also desolate of life.  When the Jews returned, Israel became a land of thriving.

One final point, Jerusalem is the crux to the Biblical story.  It is the capitol of Israel, the Holy City of God, yet also "holy" to the Muslims.  It is here that the new Temple will be built ( see The Temple ), and where the anti-christ will proclaim himself as God ( Daniel 11:36-37).  It is here that two witnesses (Revelation 11:3-11) of Jesus will walk the Earth and try to convince others that Jesus really is King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:15-16).  The witnesses will be killed, according to scripture, and then resurrected and raised up to heaven after 3 days. 

Today, the world community is seeking peace in the Middle East.  By creation of a Palestinian state, would that truly gain any peace?  The land of the state of Palestine would remove area from the country of Israel, which is already too small.  Presidents, kings and ambassadors are seeking to make Israel smaller.  This opposes what God had deemed from the beginning in His promise to Abraham.

This is a land of struggle.  "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. " Romans 10:1.  NKJ

3.  Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle.

Comment Separate the fighting in Israel    ( the country ) from fighting in Jerusalem (the city ).  

Today there are as many Muslims as there are Jews.  The city is "split", the Temple area has just changed from Muslim control to "Open" to other faiths.

It is not advantageous to wage a war - yet - in Jerusalem the population is still heavily mixed.

The Peace Plan (by dividing Jerusalem) is not deemed a split, but sharing per PM Ehud Olmert.

Comment We need to consider our options:
   1) Do we want to be blessed by God, or Cursed?
   2) Have we forgotten this is God's place and abode?  He re-established Israel.  Now, He will grow it to it's intended borders.  

On Promises to Abraham:
   1) Prophesy of Ishmael - fulfilled. (Genesis 16:12)
   2) Stubbornness of both Jews and others (Moslems?) claiming heritage by birthright to Abraham - established.
   3) All birthrights are null and void according to Jesus  - (Matt 3:10).  Now, all are called to bear fruit.

Israel will be more hated by the world than before.   See Zechariah 12:2-3.  Yet, the Bible says there will be no peace in this area.  The 2 regions will not solve the issue.  The Peace Plan is part of deception.
